Bispec is a medication used to manage symptoms related to overactive bladder (OAB). OAB occurs when a person cannot control bladder contractions, leading to involuntary leakage. The active ingredient in Bispec is Solifenacin succinate.
Solifenacin functions by diminishing muscle spasms in the bladder and urinary tract (urethra). Symptoms of an overactive bladder may consist of excessive urination (urinary frequency), an urgent need to use the restroom immediately upon feeling the urge (urgency), and incidents of leaking or wetting (urinary incontinence). These symptoms arise from frequent muscle contractions that the patient cannot manage, primarily caused by nerve issues in the bladder, which can result from conditions like stroke, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, and spinal cord injuries. Bladder contractions can happen even with a not full bladder, leading to attempts to urinate that yield no results. The symptoms may resemble those of cystitis. Although overactive bladder can affect individuals of any age, it is more prevalent among older adults, particularly those over 50 years old.
Bispec can be taken with or without food. If it causes stomach upset, it is advisable to take it with food. Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew, break, or crush it. Consume Bispec with a full glass of water and ensure to drink plenty of non-caffeinated fluids unless otherwise instructed by your physician to limit fluid intake.
